This design is a mashup of the Royal Game of Ur and Milestones: The Game of Life.
Royal Game of Ur is a two-player strategy race board game and one of the oldest game boards in the world.
Milestones: Game of Life is a vintage 1938 dice-and-card board game where players pair up as partners to race around the 64-space track, instead of a competitive 1v1 dueling format.
The color palette is actually quite simple with only 8 colors but obviously the focus is on the fluorescent colors. My initial vision was not a Day of the Dead vibe. That just kind of happened as I got going with the painting and I’m so glad it did!
If you follow my work at all, you know that I usually build a music playlist to accompany my artworks. As I started building one for Game Ur of Life, I noticed that most every song had a one-word title. So I leaned into that and built out a concept playlist with 64 tracks to coincide with the 64 spaces in the Milestones: Game of Life game board. It’s a mix of genres but you know I lean alternative and edgy.
