Dimensional Layers (2018)

This piece had no real rules or inspiration. I just sat down one night with my usual supplies: a ruler, a pencil, a compass, and shape templates. I knew I wanted it to be abstract – because it was clear by this point that that was my style – but I didn’t have any plans for the design other than trying to work with dimension and layers. It just flowed. I like that it is a more simple piece. It’s like a band releasing an EP instead of an LP.

Calling All Satellites (2018)

Inspiration for this piece was really just the interest in satellites and control towers. As I started sketching, I stumbled on the idea of a layout where it was uncertain if ‘contact’ was being made from the ground or from the sky. As I keep progressing with the piece, I figured out the dimensional aspect of having the satellites that were more in the foreground align with the outer rings and vice versa.

Once I started coloring the piece, the design of the sky changed several times. Originally I wanted UFOs in the sky but ended up scrapping that idea for a more homogenous black sky. Working mostly with Posca acrylic paint pens for this piece, it allowed me to fix mistakes or segments that didn’t look right.

Transcendence is an art piece produced by Chris Freyer in 2018-metaphysical-abstract-art

Transcendence (2018)

The 1st installment in my Buddha series.

Inspiration for this piece was based on my interest in alchemy, metaphysics, and Buddha. I was meditating at my coffee table one night. I have a small Buddha statue which holds a candle. The way I was sitting at the coffee table, gave it a unique perspective that stuck in my mind. This was the foundation for the layout of the piece – having the Buddha sitting on a platform with alchemy and metaphysical designs around. This is another cornerstone piece in my progression.
